WOW! What an improvement from their last album! From Ummagumma, arguably their worst album, to AHM is actually pretty insane.

The album opens with the title track. The real talking point of the album in my opinion. The orchestra is amazing throughout this song. But so is the band themselves. I enjoy Nick Masons playing and my personal favorite stretch of the song comes around three minutes in when Rick Wrights keys play over the sound of an upright bass(?)... Or is that Roger's bass?? Idk. But just after that part, Gilmour comes in with a beautiful slide guitar. So good. The rest of the song is also fun. Of course there's the middle section that gets a lot of hate for sounding like rubbish but I feel that the middle section of AHM is much better than the whale noise section of Echoes.

On the second side of the record, If is a great tune with Roger on lead vocals. Summer 68 is a great song too with Wright singing lead. And finally Fat Old Sun sees Gilmour sing the lead part! What a versatile band. Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is actually pretty good contrary to popular belief as well!

There are some really great live recordings of songs on this album. I believe there is a live version of the title track from Austria in 1971 that I really like. I could be remembering that wrong though. I also love the recent renditions David has done of Fat Old Sun including on his 2016 revisit to Pompeii.

Overall this is a good Pink Floyd Album! And the first one in their chronological catalogue that I really love.
