Wish You Were Here
Phenomenal
At this point Pink Floyd was cooking. Coming off of their best album so far and huge commercial hit. They went a pretty different direction with this one and yet it's still fantastic! Feeling like a pretty Gilmour driven album, between the 25 minutes of Shine On and Wish You Were Here, but the lyrics are very much mostly Roger of course. And some of his best. It's a very smooth listen.
Only 5 songs compared to the 10 on the previous album. Some might argue that this one is even better though. I find it difficult to choose but I would probably just lean toward Dark Side. Have A Cigar is great, the title track is great, and Welcome to the Machine is great. And they're all sandwiched in the middle of the real showstopper which is Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Such a good song.
It's fun that this album contains the only Pink Floyd song that wasn't vocally performed by a member of the band (Other than Great Gig) which is Have A Cigar.
Overall incredible album. How did they put out two masterpieces in a row? Surely they can't keep this up?!
